This is a fine example of the highly collectable Model 1908 “Commercial” Luger as produced by the DWM factory. These Luger’s were produced from 1908 through 1913 and were sold under both commercial and military contracts. This model of Luger can be distinguished from the later models, based on two notable features: 1) made without a hold-open catch and 2) no stock lug on the rear of the grip.

The top of the chamber area is blank with the rear toggle having the DWM logo markings. The right side of the barrel extension is blank and the left side and underside of the barrel have the Commercial Crown “N” proofs.

Since this is a commercial contract pistol, it is numbered in the commercial style verses the military fashion consequently the various parts are marked with the full serial number “57072” only on the front of the frame and the underside of the barrel, with the last two digits (72) numbered on the recoil lug, the underside of the side plate, the side of the trigger, the takedown lever, the lower left side of the breechblock and the very rear of the toggle. These pistols all exhibited an excellent high polish, “rust blued finish” with straw colors on the small arts and were fitted with checkered walnut grips. It is fitted with a correct nickel plated, wooden base magazine with no markings. CONDITION: NRA very good overall with 90%+ of the original rust blue finish overall, slightly dulling in some areas with wear on the edges and high spots. The side plate and left side of the frame, a couple small sports on the front grip strap and the back strap all exhibit some small areas of old aged deep pitting. 40% of the original straw colors remain, The grips are in very fine condition overall with nice checkering on both sides just showing even wear across the tops of the checkering.
